Boost Labs was tasked to build an innovative predictive analytical web application to distribute amongst executives to gain visibility into the company’s performance. Services needed include: – Data infrastructure support – Data consolidation – Data deployment (API) – Application architecture, ideation, design, and development (mobile, web, and TV)

Complexity

We created a custom application to work across multiple platforms (web, mobile, tv/multimedia). By developing unique charting types within a specific layout driven by data relationships, the combination resulted in an illuminating experience, used throughout the company to derive intelligence from the data. The challenge was in creating an innovative scalable solution that was able to fully function through various resolutions (responsive) and platforms with real-time data feed.

Description of Work Performed

The Client required a highly innovative solution that could provide visibility into their current and forecasted revenue performance quickly with real time information. The existing data infrastructure utilized MicroStrategy Platform, Adobe Marketing Cloud, SalesForce, and other various data sources via excel spreadsheets.

Boost Labs engaged with the client under a discovery phase to gather intelligence on the web application needs, but more importantly to identify the array of data sources required to feed the application. Through the Discovery Phase and related discussions, Boost Labs identified a series of “modules” of information, which may shift between one another. We categorized these modules into 4 main dashboards of information which are:

With the modules identified, the unified Boost Labs and the Client team began conceptualizing the various screens of the application, as well as identified application technical requirements and workflows via wireframes. The architecture options required prototyping solutions for the database and open source solutions utilizing PHP and JavaScript/HTML/CSS for the web application in order to validate the best solution. Prototype applications were created based on specific use cases, which was presented to key stakeholders for final approval.

Once solutions were validated, the execution plan was created and Boost Labs began the process of developing the infrastructure (devops), design process, and development for the solution. Under an agile process, the execution phase lasted for 4 months under 2 week sprints. The final product went through several test case scenarios that resulted in minor modifications to the UI.
Once the application was ready to be deployed, Boost Labs help deploy the solution that ran live internally on workstations, mobile devices, and TV.

Quantifiable Results and How

  • Successful consolidation of disparate data sources into a single environment through data analysis, engineered data infrastructure to support new datasets, and data import/export process to reliably populate new data records
  • Predictive analytical tool that performs in real-time with accurate information helped the company gain additional revenue by aligning efforts towards a singular focus and assisting with targeted, well-timed marketing efforts. We effectively eliminated the “guessing” from performance metrics.
  • Broke down silos between departments including: data analysts, executive staff, and technical staff through subject matter expertise that unified the appropriate groups by revealing performance data in a transparent, honest, and concise manner. The end result is a solution built in the half the time it would have taken the client internally.
  • The final solution helped improve ROI by increasing new customers and improved conversion percentages for the marketing spend.
